About Us

Share Your Spare Kidney is here to provide information about Chronic Kidney Disease and Living Kidney donation.  The journey of Chronic kidney Disease and End stage renal failure, Dialysis and Kidney transplant, as well as navigating life during this time can be overwhelming. The goal here is to provide some resources to help navigate the life changes that are experienced during this time and help inspire those that are considering living kidney donation.

We’re not here to provide medical advice—transplant specialists and your doctor are the right source for information based on your health and your situation. Information here isn’t meant to replace their expertise.

I’m Ernie McKnight, owner of a local business called Eagle Roofing & Construction and in 2009, I was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer and had a kidney removed. Over the next 8 years I found myself needing a kidney because the one I had left had failed. So through the generosity of Edgar Vasquez, a random stranger who decided to share his spare kidney with me and my wife, who decided to share her spare kidney with another stranger.

A paired transplant donation happened and my life was changed forever. My wife got her husband back , my daughter got her father back, mother son, etc. etc. So if you are considering sharing your spare, know that it will effect so many lives you can’t even imagine.
